Frequently Asked Questions

Why has my surgeon requested neuromonitoring (IONM)?

IntraOperative Neurophysiologic Monitoring (IONM) services has become synonymous with a medical standard of care. During any given procedure there is a level of risk. It is the goal of your surgeon and the hospital to try and minimize those risks.

Our IONM technologist will consider your preoperative findings and confer with your surgeon the day of your procedure to determine the best intraoperative treatment plan for your diagnosis. Once you are anesthetized, you will have subdermal needle electrodes placed in and around your extremities. These electrodes are then connected to specialized equipment and used to collect your unique data. This data is continuously monitored by an oversight physician and shared with your surgeon. IONM reduces the risk to the central and peripheral nervous system by alerting the surgeon and anesthesiologist to critical changes and enables them to take immediate corrective action that might have otherwise gone unnoticed.

Why am I receiving a bill from Neurophys Solutions?

Neuromonitoring is an adjunct service requested by your surgeon. Once your insurance provider receives a claim it goes through a process called adjudication. Based on the details attached to the claim, your insurance company determines whether it will pay the entire claim, pay a portion of the claim, or deny it altogether. The amount the insurance company pays is also dependent on what policy the patient holds, and what agreement is in place between itself and the medical practice. After this determination has been made, the medical practice will submit the balance to a secondary insurance provider, bill the patient, or resubmit the claim.

Why has my insurance company denied the claim?

We advise patients to reach out to their insurance provider and ask for a detailed report of benefits.

What if there is a discrepancy in the paperwork and/or services rendered?

If need be, the medical provider will amend discrepancies, resubmit insurance claim(s), and enter into an appeals process.
